I Went to Haiti!

As some of you may know, I just got back from a mission trip to Haiti. I will most likely be making a few blog posts about it so I figured I should start now. I just wanted to talk about how the trip was, what prompted me to go, and I wanted to show a few of the pictures that I captured while I was there since I saw so many beautiful things while I was there.

So, in this post I am not going to go super into detail about what exactly I did there, but I would like to talk about just how the trip was and how everything made me feel. The things that I did there were not things I do in my normal life. I am not usually hanging out with hundreds of children, working with teachers, or even just hanging out with a big group of people every night. There were quite a few things that had pushed me out of my comfort zone. I am typically not one who is comfortable sharing my feelings and talking with a large group of people, but this past week I had to step out of my comfort zone and let myself be a little more vulnerable around these people. This trip really did bring me closer to God and helped me build relationships with people I would have never met otherwise.

Okay so what prompted me to go? Well, to be honest I was sitting in church with my dad and they were talking about the first meeting for people who are interested in going to Haiti and my dad just said “Do you want to go to that?” and I wasn’t sure if I did but I said yes anyway and now here I am talking about my trip to Haiti. I think I said yes for a few different reasons. One reason was obviously to go and help in anyway that I can, but another reason was kind of to just do something that I wouldn’t have done unless someone had asked me. I never would have done something like that on my own, so I am glad that it happened the way it did.

I also wanted to share a little bit of what I had learned on my own there. I learned to see past all of the negatives and to see all of the positives. There were some things there that could be upsetting if you go into it with the wrong mindset, but for me it was honestly hard to see the negatives because when I got there, all I could see was the beauty in everything. I saw these huge mountains, and how green everything was.I would have had so many more pictures, but on the first day I was there I was completely mesmerized by the beauty of Haiti. That lesson I learned there will definitely be used in my everyday life back home.

I will definitely post more about my trip, but I wanted this first post to just be how this trip affected me because maybe there is someone out there thinking about doing something like this but just needs that little push in the right direction.
